New HVAC System In Progress At Doyle

A new HVAC system is currently being installed in the gymnasium of Doyle Elementary School.

White County Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the addition is long overdue as the original system is very old. Dronebarger said they hope to have the new system operational within the next week or two.

“They actually have to remove the old system that’s actually in the gym out,” Dronebarger said. “But we’re hoping we can get that done and work around the school schedule. So time will tell but they know that we need to get that done because it will be their heating source. Right now temperatures are very mild but it will turn cold quickly.”

Dronebarger said their crews have added new duct work to the gym’s rafters and are working to put the unit on its concrete pad. Dronebarger said the new system will be more energy efficient and make events in the gym much more comfortable.

“It’s self-contained to that particular room, that gymnasium,” Dronebarger said. “We did some extensive work on the overall heating and cooling ventilation system at Doyle about six years ago and so this will just be a last piece of that.”

Dronebarger said their crews are able to work on the project without interrupting the school’s daily operations.

“Our school schedule is in such that the gym teacher’s not there every day,” Dronebarger said. “So they’re able to work on the days that they’re not having gym class in that space.”

Dronebarger said Doyle Elementary had one of the few air conditioned gyms in the district for a long time.

“Recently with grant funding we have installed air conditioning in all of our gyms in all of our schools across the district,” Dronebarger said. “But Doyle had the existing one, it started to fail, so it was time to replace it.”
