New Grant For York Honeymoon House

More money on the way to the Alvin C. York State Park to help restore the Honeymoon House.

The Tennessee Historical Commission announced Friday some $100,000 to continue work on the home, built by Sgt. York’s son as a home for he and his new bride. The facility will be brought back to the look of the 1920s and used as part of the facilities at the Fentress County park.

The State Historic Preservation Office made a grant award in October to begin the work.

A total of $2 million awarded Friday by the Historical Commission through its Historic Property/Land Acquisition Fund, a new grant program designed to preserve landmarks statewide. The York project the only one in the Upper Cumberland selected.
