Shannon Cantrell is the new Executive Director for Livingston-Overton Chamber of Commerce.
Cantrell said coming in during the pandemic has been a complete change in the chamber’s day to day routine. Cantrell said she has been running the chamber like an information center to help answer the community’s needs.
“We had people constantly calling everyday, ‘where can I get some small business funding help, what do I need to do here I’m struggling with my unemployment, what do I need to do here,’ so it was a very huge learning experience,” Cantrell said.
Cantrell said the things the chamber has been doing during COVID-19 should become what the chamber does all the time. Continuing her focus in the new position, Cantrell said it’s about emphasizing the small things.
“It takes small steps and it takes the small businesses and it takes the small deals and it takes the small developments, to add up to a really big impact for a community,” Cantrell said.
Cantrell has been at the Livingston-Overton Chamber of Commerce for a year now, formerly serving as the Marketing and Tourism Director. With her background in marketing, Cantrell said it’s important how the Livingston-Overton area is viewed.
“People can see us as a great day trip, or a weekend trip, girl’s trip or whatever it needs to be as long as we’re marketing our current assets and just building on what we have,” Cantrell said.
Two points of focus Cantrell named include, Standing Stone Park and Central Park.
The Livingston-Overton Chamber’s Executive Committee voted to appoint Cantrell on August 27th. Cantrell replaces Greg McDonald who retired in July. During that time gap, Cantrell served as the Interim Executive Director.
