New County Attorney Appointed at Cumberland County Commission Meeting

Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster announced the appointment of new County Attorney Philip Burnett at the regular monthly  meeting of the Cumberland County Commission tonight.

Burnett, a partner in Crossville-based Bean, Smith & Burnett, was appointed to a two-year term, to expire October 31, 2020. His appointment was approved unanimously on voice vote.

Foster expressed enthusiasm at the appointment and said he’s looking forward to working with Burnett.

“I’m looking forward to working with him,” he said. “I believe we’ve got a good one and I’m very pleased that he’s agreed to come and work as the new Cumberland County attorney.”

One of the first items Foster plans to discuss when he meets with Burnett later this week is the $100,000 Spirit Broadband settlement that has not yet been paid. “The first payment was due – of $50,000 – some time ago. It was not met and so now we’ll be moving to the next phase.”
