Cookeville City Council approved Thursday night extending the completion deadline for the new Cookeville Police Headquarters by 45 days.
Police Chief Randy Evans said that a job of this size will typically have a few delays. He said that this specific delay is due to supply chain issues and COVID, the latest delay with flooring.
“Some of our complete crews have been out with COVID,” Evans said. “But they’re managing, and they’re managing it very well. We just felt it reasonable at this point to authorize the extension.”
Evans said that when the project was initially started, the deadline was set for December. He said that project add-ons kept pushing back the completion date. Evans said that the new completion date is expected to be April 18th. He said that the next steps are to continue on and have crews work as best as they can with the current obstacles.
“W&O has been a great asset to the city,” Evans said. “And they’re working the issues hard and doing their best to get materials in and the subcontractors have got people on site. Nobody is sitting on their hands, for sure.”
Evans said that at this time, the change order does not have any additional cost to the city.
In other business, city council also approved a new contract for Electric System Right-of-Way and Easement Maintenance. Electric Department Director Carl Haney said that the new 3-year contract will be with Loftis Underground to have crews maintain the department right-of-ways.
Haney said that bids were evaluated on bid documents, labor and equipment cost, experience, and the proposed equipment for those that submitted proposals. He said that the lowest bidder did not meet specs on equipment and documents.
