New Cookeville Council Members To Be Sworn in Thursday

Cookeville’s newly-elected council members are looking forward to being sworn in and begin the process of leading the city.

Councilman-elect Mark Miller said the effort put into campaigning leading up to the election has led up to this.

“I’m really excited about this. We’re jumping in full force,” Miller said. “I had a year’s worth of campaigning work. It was a pretty difficult, strenuous process but now it’s time to actually get to work. I love my city and I want it to keep on moving forward and be a strong, great city.”

Incoming Vice Mayor Laurin Wheaton said she looks forward to helping the city continue to succeed.

“This was something that we just started talking about in January,” Wheaton said, “and the fact that I’m actually getting to do this now… It was a very busy road. It was a hard road but it’s good to be here so I’m excited.”

Councilman-elect Eric Walker said he was honored to be elected to City Council and is prepared to get to work with city officials.

“It’s amazing to have that many people support me and vote for [me],” Walker said. “It’s a really good feeling to come away with that support and be able to represent the people. My thoughts going forward are to work hard and to do the right thing for everybody.”

The new council members will be sworn during Thursday’s council meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m. and will participate in the orientation process next week.
