New City EMS Director Selected By Celina Mayor

Celina Mayor Tonya Spears has selected EMT Jason Emerton as the city’s new EMS director.

Spears said competition for the position was fierce. Four first responders within the city were interviewed to fill the role.

“It was very difficult. If I could have said all four of you take the position, I would have,” Spears said. “Of course, that is not the case, so it was a very hard decision. I went back and fourth even awake at 2 o’clock in the morning thinking I have to make this decision.”

Spears said Emerton’s experience and familiarity with city operations were the deciding factors.

“He has been in this field for several years,” Spears said. “He is a EMT. He has a good personality and a good guy. He has been at this for several years.”

Emerton replaces former director Natalie Boone, who accepted a new position with TEMA. Spears said she is confident in the future of emergency services under the new director.

“I can say that I have full faith in Jason stepping into the position and being able to carry on as our new director,” Spears said.
