New Ambulance On Way To Jackson After Vote

Jackson County Commissioners voted Monday night to purchase a new $225,000 ambulance for the county.

County Executive Randy Heady said Ambulance Service Director Keith Bean came upon the ambulance at a EMS conference two weeks ago. A company offered one of three brand new chassis with a remounted box in good shape.

“You just don’t see this happen every day,” Heady said. “Two of them sold there and then they held the one for us and they’re still holding it for us after this meeting. And so this was a no brainer. It doesn’t tie up the grant. We’re still going after the CDBG grant.”

Heady said the county hopes to get a grant for another ambulance, but the current turnaround on delivery can be two to three years. The county will use American Rescue Plan money to purchase the ambulance.

Even with the new ambulance, Heady said the county still needs to do some work on its ambulance fleet. Commissioners approved the application for the CDBG grant as well.

Commissioners approved a budget amendment for officer training at the Sheriffs Department. Heady said four officers are currently undergoing the training. The county will sell off several pieces of used equipment.
