The new addition to Algood Branch Library creates connections in the community.
Branch Director Rochelle Turner said the addition holds public computers and a small meeting space. Turner said the space has already been used for genealogy and chair yoga classes.
Turner said the addition was completed at the end of April and the reaction from patrons has been very supportive.
“Oh, they’ve appreciated the fact that they can have that separate space in order to study and use the computers,” Turner said. “And the pick up of the genealogy class has been fun. So they have those computers to look up their history as well.”
Turner said the library is a multi-generational space offering everything from home school meetups for children to chair yoga for seniors.
Turner said the city had recently built a ramp which made the library more accessible to both their youngest and oldest patrons.
“So that’s been a really great thing for our library. We have some little ones and moms with their strollers to seniors in their 80s and 90s as well.”
Turner said one of her favorite things about the expansion was that it opened up what had felt like a small space.
“It moved the computers out and I was thinking about adding a shelf,” Turner said. “But I’m not prepared to do that because I’m really enjoying the kids having a little play area.”
Turner said they have a puzzle area and a smaller table for some activities so she can do pop-up activities with the kids.
Turner said she has been able to do a very mellow version of chair volleyball with the seniors.
“We’re just trying to get the motion going with our seniors,” Turner said. “But it’s actually turning out that it’s kids and seniors because the kids are loving playing chair volleyball with the seniors.”
