Neighboring EMS Agencies Helping Cover Clay County Emergencies

Jackson County EMS one of several agencies that will help cover emergencies in Celina after its ambulance service resigned.

PIO Derek Woolbright said that as of noon Monday, they have already had one unit respond to Clay County.

“It certainly going to increase the workload for our on-shift employees,” Woolbright said. “But I do want to stress to the residents of Jackson County that this will not affect their ability to call an ambulance and receive a response and care. We’re still going to be responding to our residents as well as helping out the people of Clay County as we can.”

Woolbright said Clay County’s 911 dispatch is still in full force and will help direct those calls. Other EMS agencies helping Clay County include Overton/Pickett, Macon, and the state.

“Their 911 center is still going to be answering their calls for service,” Woolbright said. “And if it’s something to where they need our help or if it’s closer to us than some of the surrounding counties to respond to then they will transfer that call and information from their 911 center to our 911 center and we will send one of our units.”

Woolbright said while he does not know long this will last, he is aware that there are plans for coverage in place by the city of Celina. He said in the meantime, they will do what they can to help their neighbor.

“We have a good working partnership in the Upper Cumberland,” Woolbright said. “So when you get that call, it’s all about helping people. We want to make sure the people of Clay County, just like the people of Jackson County, are receiving responses to their emergencies and they’re receiving good care.”
