Wet weather has delayed work to update the Fall Creek Falls Nature Center and the areas around the center.
“There’s not been a lot done on the outside of the building, but the inside, we’ve been able to get a little bit of the remodeling in there at least halfway completed,” Park Manager Jacob Young said.
Young said the contractors remain optimistic they can make up some time as the weather warms. Still, the expected early May opening looks optimistic, Young said.
“The best we’re looking at right now is probably the first of July,” Young said.
The Nature Center sits with the Cane Creek Waterfall and the swinging bridge inside the park. Young said the facelift of the building includes an ADA upgrade.
“Making it more handicapped-accessible and improving lots of things while they do it,” Young said. “All of the pathways around that building are getting replaced. There’s a new parking area getting added to the backside of the building. The overlook are getting redone as well and there’ll also be an area where someone who might be in a wheelchair, they can go up and see down into the gorge.”
Young said he hopes displays inside of the Nature Center can be updated soon.
The swinging bridge remains open while construction continues.
