National Goodwill Week Provides Opportunities For Job Seekers

Goodwill Career Solutions of Cookeville will offer two free workshops Thursday as part of National Goodwill Week.

Jim Berry serves as Goodwill’s Certification and Learning Management Systems Coordinator. He said the workshops help prepare people who are seeking work.

“Anyone that is willing to come and learn and grow, we want to be able to set people up for success,” Berry said. “One of those ways is to stand out and have a good resume. We believe that is a critical aspect of the job application process and learning how to apply that to online job searching, as well as applying to jobs.”

Berry said National Goodwill Week gives the organization more opportunities to prepare those who are looking to enter the workforce.

“This week we’re providing job-readiness classes where clients can come in to learn more on how to apply for work, specifically how to fill out a resume so they can stand out more,” Berry said. “[As well as] interview skills, where they can learn more on how to better prepare themselves in answering traditional questions or behavioral-based questions employers may ask.”

The first workshop will begin at 9 a.m. covering basic computer skills and online job searching, while the second starting at noon with resume structure and writing skills. The workshops will take place at the Goodwill Career Solutions office on South Jefferson Avenue near the Goodwill store.

National Goodwill Week was first introduced in 1951 to encourage local Goodwill locations in promoting education and job training programs. More information can be found at giveit2goodwill.org.
