Muzzleloader season for deer opened in Tennessee last weekend.
TWRA Captain Dale Grandstaff said he wants hunters to keep one thing in mind as they take part in muzzleloader season.
“Every year we have people who hunt during muzzleloader season that will use a shotgun.” Grandstaff said. “Keep that in mind, because you can’t use a shotgun or a rifle. It is a muzzleloader only season.”
Muzzleloader seasons runs until November 17th in all of Tennessee’s deer hunting units. Hunters are also reminded that they must meet blaze orange requirements while hunting.
Muzzleloading firearms are defined as those firearms which are incapable of being loaded from the breech. Muzzleloading firearms of .36 caliber minimum, plus long bows, compound bows and crossbows are legal hunting equipment for this season.
