Only 32 property owners have taken advantage of the Upper Cumberland Association of Realtors’ tornado relief fund.
President Kathy Dunn said she wishes more people would apply for relief before the June 1 deadline.
“We’ve gotten the word out through several different methods,” Dunn said. “I don’t know if some people because of the name of the realtor relief fund that the fund was only available to realtors. I don’t know, but the fund is there. It’s available”
Dunn said disbursements of funds started the first week of April. Around $50,000 has been distributed so far. The unused money would be placed back into the National Association of Realtors’ fund. The tornado in March displaced around 600 home owners.
“In addition to the the checks from the National Association of Realtors wrote, we also distributed about $16,000 out of our local fund,” Dunn said.
The deadline to apply for tornado relief is June 1st. Dunn said the fund still contains money for relief. The application allows up to $1,000 per household for mortgage or rent assistance. Applications ask for proof of damage, a copy of a lease or mortgage payment and an estimate from a insurance company.
