Morgan Said Ready To Hit The Ground As Mayor

Jackson County’s new mayor Jim Morgan said he is ready to dive into his new role and start learning how best to lead the county.

Morgan said his first priorities are to get into the office, find out what is going on, and try to catch up on what the county needs to be doing right now. Morgan said he is well aware of county government and what the mayor’s position entails but there will be a learning process for him.

“Just (a) little nervous what I’m getting into,” Morgan said. “I know kind of what it takes but still you’re going into new waters for me but hopefully I can do what I need to do and help improve and grow Jackson County.”

Morgan said he was asked to run for mayor by some of the other county commissioners because of his background with the county’s budget and work as an EMS director. Morgan said he is comfortable moving forward because he has a good group of commissioners to work with.

“I feel like I’ve got the majority that helped get me here so hopefully everything will work out,” Morgan said.

Morgan said it is an honor to have the trust of the people and the commission to be placed in this role, although it was overwhelming to actually be elected and officially sworn in Monday night. Morgan said he hopes he can do the job half as well as his predecessor, the late Randy Heady.

“I hope I can follow in Randy’s footsteps, Mayor Heady,” Morgan said. “I was good friends with Mayor Heady and I just hope I can fulfill some of the things he was working on.”
