The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that Overton County law enforcement officers shot and killed an unidentified man Tuesday night.
The shooting happened around 5:00 p.m. at a Petalbrook Lane residence.
Authorities said a resident contacted authorities to report an abandoned vehicle with bullet holes on his property. Officials said two Overton County deputies arrived on scene and encountered a male walking out of a nearby tree line. A TBI press release said a confrontation occurred with the man reportedly producing a handgun. At that point, officials said officers opened fire, killing the man.
Officials said no officers were injured and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
The TBI does not identify officers involved in these types of investigations, and instead refers such inquiries to the respective local law enforcement agencies.
