‘Have You Herd? It’s Fair Time!’ That is this year’s theme for the upcoming Cumberland County Fair.
The fair officially kicks off Monday, but events begin this weekend. Cumberland County Fair President Gary Adams said this year’s fair will feature cow-like decorations throughout the fairgrounds. Adams said some of the events will be slightly different than years past.
“We have separated our horse and mule show,” Adams said. “Our horse show is on Friday night only and then Saturday night is all mules, so that is something that we have done new this year.”
The fair will have some community favorites returning such as gospel music, a monster truck show, a motorcycle race, and a youth rodeo. Adams also said the James Gang Carnival will be returning this year. The midway opens Friday.
“They are a wonderful and awesome bunch,” Adams said. “They are great to work with and they got a lot of rides for us as well.”
Adams said he and the board have worked all year long with monthly meetings piecing the fair together. Adams said he and the fair board get excited this time of year.
“It’s all about our community and our volunteers you know,” Adams said. “It’s just a wonderful feeling whenever our entry starts developing and people start bringing in a day of work that they have worked on so hard and then you got all the volunteers that come into help. It’s just like a big old puzzle you gotta put all the puzzle pieces together and it’s just awesome to see our community come together.”
Adams said without the volunteers the fair would not be as successful. Admission is $5 with kids five and under being free of admission.
