Monterey Waiting For New Wastewater Treatment Plant Permit

A permit for Monterey’s new wastewater treatment plant will soon be placed on public notice by TDEC.

Nathaniel Green is a consulting engineer with James C. Hailey and Company.

“That will be the next step before we get a permit for the actual discharge site,” Nathaniel Green said. “They told me that they are going to put it on notice and that I can begin to submit a preliminary engineering report, which is going to be the basics of design for TDEC review.”

Green said it could be about a year before construction begins on the new plant.

“This is a new process. The state is becoming more involved with the design process,” Green said. “TDEC is not just looking at Monterey, they are looking at everybody else in the state.”

Monterey wants to build the new wastewater treatment plant at the end of Stewart Avenue, the site of the city’s first wastewater treatment facility. That site would discharge into a stream that’s considered the head of Falling Water River.
