The town of Monterey taking action after Alderman Joey Isabell missed his third consecutive meeting Monday night.
Mayor Bill Wiggins said the charter requires a written letter to be sent to an alderman after two consecutive missed meetings without an explanation.
“The alderman has to be sent a letter reminding them of the provisions in the code,” Wiggins said. “If they can’t show just cause as to why they missed that many meetings the seat will be declared vacant if they don’t show up for the next meeting.”
Monday night aldermen voted to allow the city attorney to send that letter to Isabell.
The code states that the city can declare the seat vacant if Isabell does not show up for the next meeting or give a justified reasoning for missing the meetings.
