Monterey Sets August 15th Start Date For Sewer Repairs

A sewer rehabilitation project will get underway in Monterey next month.

Nathaniel Green is a consulting engineer for the Town of Monterey. He said the $373,000 project will repair some aging sewer lines throughout town.

“You’ve got some in the Highlands Residential Area and you’ve got some that’s going to be down on Industrial Drive. We even have some that are added alternates that would be up along Commercial,” Green said. “We’re hoping to get into those additive alternate areas, but at this point it all has to do with how much money you have. Unfortunately, $300,000 doesn’t go a long way whenever it goes to sewer rehabilitation.”

Monterey officials set an August 15th start date during a pre-construction conference on Monday. The contract states that crews will have 150-days to complete the work.

Green said about 2,500 linear feet of line will be replaced by conducting a pipe bursting process. A dig and replace method will address about 300-feet of line.

“Pipe bursting is where a line will be installed without having to do any dig and replacement,” Green said. “They go through each manhole, and what they do is carry a pipe through that will replace the pipe that’s there now.”

The Monterey Board of Mayor and Aldermen awarded the project bid to J&H Construction in June. The town will be using a Community Development Block Grant to pay for the project.
