Monterey’s Christmas parade route will showcase new downtown lights and decorations this year.
Julie Bohannon is the Monterey Cultural Administrator.
“As the locals call it, we drive ‘the loop’, so the loop is now decorated with beautiful snowflakes on the light poles,” Bohannon said. “It’s down commercial, Holly, Stratton, and Crossville Streets.”
Red bows will also be featured on a number of street lamps this year.
The town purchased the new decorations with funding from the Monterey Hometown Project. The project began earlier this year as a way to celebrate the town’s 125th anniversary.
Standing Stone Historical Society President Anita Lane said civic leaders have set a goal to raise $125,000 in private funds through the project. The money will be used for town improvements and beautification projects.
“This is an ongoing initiative that we hope will last in perpetuity so that people can give back to their hometown and help us make Monterey a more beautiful place to live and work,” Lane said.
