The town of Monterey will hold a public meeting Thursday to discuss the future of parks, recreation, and cultural resources.
Mayor Bill Wiggins said he’s wanting some new additions to Whittacker Park.
“Kids are all over those new playground pieces, but there’s nowhere for the parents to sit,” Wiggins said. “I think we are going to get a bench or two donated, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a fitness apparatus down there. Some of the folks might want to stay active and it will be another attraction for the park.”
Alderman Rebecca Iaquinta has also expressed interest in constructing a splash pad at some point.
“I would like to see us have a splash pad,” Iaquinta said. “The day will come when the parks and recreation is going to fill in that 40-year-old pool and we will be without any kind of recreation for the kids to cool off in the summer.”
Thursday’s meeting will take place at 11:00 a.m. inside Monterey City Hall.
