Monterey Mayor, Aldermen Sworn In

New Monterey Mayor Alex Garcia and four new aldermen were sworn into service Monday night.

Garcia was sworn in by Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives Cameron Sexton. The four new aldermen included Vice Mayor Kevin Peters, Aldermen Jamie Phillips, Larry Bennett, and Spencer Delk. Delk was appointed by the aldermen to fill the vacant aldermen spot left by Garcia.

Aldermen James “Coonie” Foster announced he was dropping out of the election runoff for the final aldermen position as he tied with Cecilia Paulsen in the August election. Foster was emotional during his final remarks saying Monday night was going to be his last meeting. Foster said he will now focus on his garden and coaching T-Ball.

Foster served eight years on the Board of Aldermen.
