Two additional miles of trail completed at Meadow Creek Park as part of Monterey’s efforts to fulfill its master plan.
Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said a total of five miles created out of the 13 planned in the first phase of development.
“That’s a pretty big chunk of the overall goal to get that loop that would wrap around the entire lake front within the park,” Cleary said. “SORBA, they kinda of have it planned to where they are going to have really close to all of that completed by the end of the summer.”
Cleary said the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association has volunteered and cleared most of the trails by hand. Cleary said the group is about to secure a mini excavator to speed up the work.
Cleary said another part of phase one is the entry sign to the park. Cleary said the city has started the design process on those signs which will be centered around coal mining history.
As for the remainder of the master plan, Cleary said next fiscal year’s budget will determine how much work is completed.
