Monterey will have some extra revenue flowing into its general fund next fiscal year.
Mayor Bill Wiggins said a few years ago the town’s board of mayor and aldermen decided to use money from the water and sewer fund to help keep the lights on.
“They were compelled by the state of Tennessee to pay back that money. It’s been $55,000 a year for the last few years going into paying back what was drained from that water and sewer account,” Wiggins said. “This year is our last payment so that will be another $55,000 freed up to be used at the board’s discretion.”
Wiggins said that would be money that could be used for future road projects or other infrastructure needs around town.
