Monterey Lions Head To Texas

The Monterey Lions Club Disaster Response Team deployed to Texas Friday morning, Director Ken Hall said.

“We’re supposed to be there this time as the storm hits so this is a little bit different of a response than normal,” Hall said.

The early response isn’t the only new thing. Hall said the group has been asked to protect and serve.

“This will be the first time for a, I guess you could call it an armed response, four former police officers are going to prevent looting and help in recovery,” Hall said.

Hurricane Harvey is bearing down on Texas. Forecasters predict it will make landfall Friday night, with torrential rain and high winds.

Donations are always accepted to defray the costs of the response missions. Contact the club through their Facebook page.
