U.S. News and World Report ranked Monterey High School as one of the nation’s bronze medal schools.
Monterey Principal Sonja Farley said she was excited to hear her school’s recent recognition.
“We’re proud of our little school,” Farley said. “We think a lot of our academics and [having] well-rounded students in our building.”
U.S. News and World Report rates schools based on exceeded expectations, performance of underserved students, graduation rates, and college readiness.
Farley said the school’s high graduation rate may have helped in earning a bronze rating. According to the report, Monterey has a 99 percent graduation rate, the highest in Putnam County.
“I’m just proud to be in Putnam County,” Farley said. “We’ve got the best system in the state.”
Monterey was the only high school in Putnam County to receive a national rating. Other high schools in the area receiving bronze ratings include Clarkrange, Clay County, Cumberland County, Livingston Academy, and White County.
