Monterey Gives Approval To Town’s First Liquor Store

A liquor store is one step closer to locating in Monterey.

The town’s Alcoholic Beverage Commission granted a certificate of compliance to Sherry L. Lawson, who has plans to open The Spigot Wine and Liquors at the old Rocky Pops Barbecue on East Stratton Avenue.

Monterey Mayor Bill Wiggins said the state has to give approval before the store can begin stocking shelves.

“We now send all the application info on to the Alcoholic Beverage Commission in Nashville,” Wiggins said. “As soon as that gets there we will have something published about this business in the Herald-Citizen. Any comment about this business will be directed to the ABC in Nashville and not the town of Monterey.”

Wiggins also informed the commission Monday night that the town’s code officer has issued a building permit to Carl’s Market, which is also planing to open a liquor store as well.
