The first business to sell alcohol in Monterey will be Convenience Mart on South Holly Street.
The town’s beer board gave approval Monday night. Convenience Mart owner Mike Todd now has up to 120 days to complete the process and begin selling beer.
Last November Monterey voters approved a referendum permitting retail package stores to sell beer. The referendum narrowly passed with 367 people voting for and 328 people voting against.
Two other stores have applied to sell beer as well. They include Monterey Quick Stop on Industrial Road and Carl’s Market on Hanging Limb Highway.
