Monterey Girls Wrestler Honored By Town For Accomplishments

The town of Monterey honored Monterey High School Student Kaylin Marie Shepherd Monday for her accomplishments as a girls wrestler.

Shepherd won the Tennessee AAU state championship for her age group and weight class and finished third at the national level. Mayor JJ Reels honored Shepherd by proclaiming April 6th as Kaylin Marie Shepherd Day and giving her a key to the town.

Shepherd said she is grateful to be a representative of Monterey.

“It was a very big honor and very exciting,” Shepherd said.

Shepherd is now waiting for an invitation to compete at the Junior Olympics in Texas later this summer. Shepherd said she gives the credit to God and thanks her parents and softball team for the support.

“My parents, the whole town of Monterey and my softball team, they all helped me,” Shepherd said. “And a bunch of people that donated money along the to help me get to nationals.”
