Monterey Getting Closer To Having Its First Liquor Store

Monterey is getting closer to having its first liquor store in town.

The proposed store would be located at the old Rocky Pops Barbecue off exit 301 near the Shell station.

Monterey Mayor Bill Wiggins said the town’s beer and liquor committee will be meeting Monday to consider issuing a certificate of compliance to the store owner.

“He has come into total compliance with local codes and ordinances and we are ready to issue him a certificate to forward to the Alcoholic Beverage Commission in Nashville,” Wiggins said.

The commission will have to approve that certificate before the business can officially operate and residents will be able to voice their opposition to the ABC.

The committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday just before the Board of Mayor and Alderman’s regular scheduled meeting.
