The Monterey Garden Club’s annual auction comes Tuesday, fundraising for Monterey high school students.
President Jan Stansel said the event helps give about five students a $500 scholarship each year.
“We do not give the scholarship just the year that they graduate,” Stansel said. “We have discovered once a student is in college these scholarships dwindle. They aren’t as many available, so we try to help these students until they graduate.”
Stansel said the live auction begins at 10:30 at the Monterey United Methodist Church. Stansel said gift cards, plants, artwork and more will be available for bid.
“We got a nice-sized aloe vera plant. We’ve got a nice ivy that would be perfect for someone inside the house that just wants something fresh and green,” Stamsel said. “We’ve got a mum that was donated by Johnson’s Nursery to help us out, and we’ve got various other plants.”
Stansel said the fundraiser is an important one for the community. Stansel said the club needs all the money that it can raise, so Monterey students can achieve their potential.
“We have a quilt that did belong to Frannie Ray that we are very glad to auction off,” Stansel said. “Frannie was a great supporter of our club, and we appreciate the family donated that too.”
Stansel said people should come a little early to view the items for auction. Stansel said the event will be in the fellowship hall and each person will be assigned a number to bid.”
