Monterey Depot Historical Society Hosting Celebration For Local School Staff

The Monterey Depot Historical Society will show its appreciation to local educators tonight through a Christmas party.

Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said the Depot wanted to give school staff and their families a night of fun after a challenging two years of COVID.

“They pushed through all of that adversity and met the ultimate goal which is to make sure that they’re molding bright minds for the future,” Cleary said. “So the Depot Society recognized this, and we just wanted to say thank you.”

Cleary said a big crowd is expected with Burks Elementary School and Monterey High School invited. Cleary said the free dinner will be cooked, prepped and served by the high school’s FCCLA organization.

“We were able to obviously make a sizable donation to FCCLA and have them serve the meal tonight,” Cleary said. “So, there is an educational tool part of this where they’ll be able to get the experience of serving a pretty sizable dinner. We’re doing this in a way in which students can get a hands on experience in hospitality.”

Cleary said One Bank of Tennessee is also sponsoring and providing goodie bags. Cleary said the celebration will take place at Monterey High School.

“It’s a time for the teachers to kind of laugh and come together and at the same time, we will make sure they leave with their bellies full and some little gifts to take home, as well,” Cleary said.

The main role of the Depot is to preserve the history of Monterey and educate the community. But secondly, Cleary said the society works to give back to the community by fundraising and hosting events like this.
