Monterey Depot Getting Fresh Paint Job

The Monterey Depot will be getting a new paint job.

Cultural Administrator Rafferty Cleary said the goal is to have the building completed by the end of the summer.

“We’re excited about this project,” Cleary said. “The building in the past 10 years has taken on a little bit of weathering and definitely needs to have a fresh coat on it.”

Cleary said he does not anticipate any disruptions to the day to day depot operations. Cleary said there will be no changes to the Depot with the current cream color being used.

“The city is definitely interested in maintaining this building,” Cleary said. “It is such a vital, important part of Monterey. We’re just glad that we can finally, I know we’ve bid it out three or four times, but finally come move forward with getting a fresh coat on it.”

After several bid attempts with no interest or the right price, the town’s Board of Aldermen found and approved an interested party last week. Cleary said the work will cost about $6,000.

Cleary said the town is working with the local painting company to schedule a start date. Cleary said working around the weather might push the painting to start after the spring.
