The Monterey budget has some funding set aside for several upgrades at the water plant.
Finance Committee Chairman Nathan Walker said the city will set aside $10,000 over the course of the next couple of years to replace a chlorine dioxide generator system.
“It’s working right now, but he expects it will need to be replaced within the next couple of years,” Walker said. “We are going to go ahead and get ahead of the curve on that.”
$40,000 will cover the purchase of a new SCADA system, which helps keep the plant compliant with the state.
“It controls your chemical feed pump rate and stop start on all the valves,” Water Plant Director Duane Jarrett said.
The current SCADA system was installed in 1996 and parts can no longer be purchased for system.
$7,500 will help purchase a new drainage valve.
The Monterey Board of Mayor and Aldermen have approved the first and second reading of the upcoming fiscal year budget. Third and final reading will occur June 4th.
