Miniburger Turns 50

A Cookeville landmark turned 50 Monday

David Davis was helping man the grill at Miniburger in Cookeville on Monday.

“We’re 50 years old today,” Davis said. “Jack Bates opened it 50 years ago today, so we’re running fifty cent hamburgers and eighty cent cheese burgers. He would have been eighty this year, but he passed away in 2009.”

Business was brisk this afternoon at Miniburger’s location at the corner of Willow Avenue and Broad Street. Every seat in the restaurant was full and traffic was backed up at the drive thru window out to street.

“We have a little bit of a wait,” Davis said, “Right now we are at about an hour-and-a-half wait.”

Davis said that Miniburger would be extending their hours Monday to help with the demand.

“Our hours are that we close at two o’clock,” Davis said observing the crowd, “but we’ll be here serving for a little while. We’ll say that.”

Miniburger is usually open from 5 a.m to 2 p.m Monday through Saturday.
