McMinnville’s Milner Recreation Center is replacing its Kid Zone with a Core and Recovery Room.
Beginning Sunday, the space will provide room for people to stretch and do core exercises. Facility Manager Michael Benusches said the Kid Zone was rarely used.
“Our free weight area was pretty cramped, because that’s where people would go in to do some of their core exercises,” Benusches said. “And another space that people would be using is the back hallway of the wellness center. So we just figured, why not make that Kid Zone area into a Core and Recovery room.”
The Kid Zone was an area for children three to 11 years old to go while their parents worked out. Benusches said the staff saw this as a positive change for residents. Mats, exercise balls, medicine balls, and stability bands all being added to the space.
“What this room is meant to do is provide a space for people to stretch or recover from their work out or do like a core exercises,” Benusches said.
You must be 13 or older to enter the Core and Recovery Room.
“I would consider it an upgrade, yeah,” Benusches said. “I feel like its a better use of the space. Like I said, that space wasn’t really being utilized for the Kids Zone area. They’re would be a couple kids drop in over the course of a couple weeks, but now we’re going to get daily use during all hours of operation, I believe, with the Core and Recovery Room.”
