Milner Rec Center Opening Postponed For Paving

The Milner Recreation Center has postponed its opening date because of the asphalt plant closing for the Winter.

McMinnville City Administrator Nolan Ming said the substantial completion date is set for February 15, with plans to fully open in mid to late-March. Ming said the paving has not been completed for the eastern entrance and parking lot.

“The end of March is when we hope to get everything in place, ready to operate,” Ming said. “I would say either mid to late-March is when we expect, probably the facility to be open to the public.”

Ming said that COVID issues have continued to plague the $9.2 million project. However, Ming said that despite being a few months past the scheduled completion date, the city is still right at its budget for the project.

“COVID in general, did had a pretty significant impact on the project,” Ming said. “From suppliers to on-site contractors dealing and working through those COVID issues.”

Ming said the city is hoping to get a temporary certificate of occupancy to start moving into the recreation center. He said staff will work between February and the March opening date to get operations put together.

“February 15, that’s when we expect substantial completion of the project,” Ming said. “In general, that’s getting all the flooring in, all the transitions between flooring surfaces, all the painting. Everything in general done, there may be a few punch list, small items to take care of.”

Ming said that the existing parking lot on the western side of the building will be utilized early on at the Milner Recreation Center. Prior to this update, Ming said the expected opening date would be the end of January.
