Meet The Candidates: Winton Dillon For Celina Alderman

(Editors Note: This is the second in a series of Meet The Candidate Interviews as we prepare for the June 1 election in Celina. The office of mayor will be filled as will three seats on the Board Of Aldermen.)

Winton Dillon is one of the six people running for Celina Alderman.

Dillon said he was born in Clay County and has recently retired after 40 years in the Tennessee Army National Guard. Dillon said he wants to to see the city progress, so the youth will stay in the community.

“From what I see right now, I would like to address getting the streets fixed, and getting the streets fixed would solve a lot of the other problems that I see,” Dillon said. “That would be probably one of my main focuses is for better streets.”

Dillon said making a better future for his two grandchildren that live in Celina is the reason for running. Dillon said he wants the Board of Aldermen to work together to make decisions that benefit everyone.

This is Dillon’s response to being asked why he wants to be an Alderman.

“I want to see things progress and go forward,” Dillon said. “So maybe when they get out of school, they will want to stay here and work here. I am going to try and help everyone to the best of my ability, but I see my grandchildren and see the things I haven’t seen changed in years. It is a great community right now, but hopefully if I get elected, I will try to make it better for everyone.”

Dillon said this is his outlook for the future of Celina.

“To grow, to maybe get factories and stuff back in the city,” Dillon said. “A few more factories, so people can get out and get back to work. I think Celina is one of the highest unemployment rates in the state. If I had long term goals, that would be what I would like to see. But, I’ll face everything as it comes. Like I said, I retired at Tennessee Army National Guard once I spent 40 years with them, and when a situation came up, we, and I am talking about the guys that I served with, we worked as a team to solve it.”

Early voting lasts until May 27th. Election Day is June 1st.
