(Editors Note: This is the seventh in a series of Meet The Candidate Interviews as we prepare for the June 1 election in Celina. The office of mayor will be filled as will three seats on the Board Of Aldermen.)
Luke Collins is one of the three people running for Celina Mayor.
Collins said he was born in Celina and is a current business owner in the community. Collins said the Cumberland River Hospital is what he wants to work on if elected mayor.
“We just need to get all the stakeholders together in one room,” Collins said. “People from the federal government. People from the state, from the county, from the city and obviously Johnny Presley or any of his representatives from the local hospital cause we all have the same goal and that is to get the local hospital going again.”
Besides that, Collins said he wants to bring more work opportunities to the community, so local youth will stay in the area. Collins said his own interest for his children’s future plays a large role in why he wants to run for mayor.
This is Collins’ response on why he wants to be mayor.
“I got five children and a grandchild and I love Celina. I love this community. It’s got the greatest people in the world,” Collins said. “But, if my children want to stay in this community, and I hope they do, I want them to have work opportunities, and I want them to have healthcare opportunities and other opportunities. I would just like to see more. I would like to see our hospital back open again, and I certainly would like to see more work opportunities here in Celina. So, the main reason I am running is because of my family just to be honest.”
Collins said this is his future outlook for Celina.
“It looks great to me,” Collins said. “I feel like we are going to win this election. Mike Boles is a great guy. Tonya Spears is a great lady. I consider both of them friends and love them both, and I would give them a kidney if they need it. I just feel like I am the best person for the job and have more experience. I am energetic and love this community, and I just feel like I can bring the partners to the table to make good things happen.”
Early voting lasts until May 27th. Election Day is June 1st.
