Meet The Candidates: Lester Kenny Westmoreland For Celina Alderman

(Editors Note: This is the third in a series of Meet The Candidate Interviews as we prepare for the June 1 election in Celina. The office of mayor will be filled as will three seats on the Board Of Aldermen.)

Lester Kenny Westmoreland is one of the six people running for Celina Alderman.

Westmoreland said he is a lifelong Celina resident and works as a minister and a Vol State Reading/Writing Specialist. Westmoreland said addressing infrastructure in the city is a priority for him.

“Water lines and such, and if perhaps we can repair water lines that are under current roads in the city,” Westmoreland said. “Then after that’s been taken care we can pave over those roads and not have to pave and dig up the roads and repair them.”

Westmoreland said he would also like to reevaluate and prioritize expenditures. Westmoreland said in the future, he would like to utilize the rivers  around the town and recruit more industry.

This is Westmoreland’s response to being asked why he wants to be an Alderman.

“I actually received papers in 2017 to run but changed my mind last minute,” Westmoreland said. “I had a few things to happen, but I just had people to encourage me to think that they believe that I would be able to bring some good ideas to the table. I guess enough people encouraged me that I just simply want to give it a try and see if I can help make difference for the city of Celina. I mean Celina is a great town. It is my home town, but Celina has it’s issues as any small town does. And so, I would like to do my best to try to contribute my experience and my knowledge to make a difference.”

Westmoreland said this is his outlook for the future of Celina.

“Celina has a great deal to offer,” Westmoreland said. “It’s there by two rivers. It’s pretty much the gateway for Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee and just for us to use the resources that we have in the city and to utilize them to make Celina the best it can be. Perhaps to see if new industry can be attracted into the city and perhaps if there is areas in the city that we need to do cleanup, that we can do cleanup and beautify. Of course, the revitalization of the square is always an issue and helping current existing businesses to thrive.”

Early voting lasts until May 27th. Election Day is June 1st.
