Medical marijuana has people talking in Tennessee.
Rep. Ryan Williams said it’s a complicated issue.
“Studies show that the big challenge that’s out there is because the federal government has made it a Schedule 1 substance meaning it has no value whatsoever, that we’re not even able to study it in the state and it puts the medical community and law enforcement at odds with one another,” Williams said.
Williams sponsored a failed medical marijuana bill in 2015, the first state Republican to introduce such a bill.
He said he is not in favor of recreational marijuana in any way, but believes there’s benefits to medical marijuana products, like vapor and oils. Williams sponsored a successful bill this year allowing Tennesseeans access to stronger cannabidiol.
