McMinnville’s Milner Recreation Center officially opens Monday.
Parks and Recreation Director Scott McCord said the Garfield Street location meets expectations and is ready for the community to visit.
“Everybody has got their offices. All the rooms are setup,” McCord said. “Tennis court is setup, basketball and got the scoreboards put up. All the fitness equipment are in. All the spin bikes are up in the spin room, and the boxing room has all the punching bags setup, and everybody is ready to go.”
McCord said doors open at 8:00 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony following at 12:30. McCord said the wellness center opens two hours early for those who want to work out before work.
“I think the final product has turned out to be awesome,” McCord said. “Did we hit some speed bumps and ups and downs? We sure did. We probably wanted to be in here a year ago, so a little delays happened. But, I think everybody that has been through here has been excited.”
McCord said plenty of fitness classes such as aerobics will be available, as well as a new pool. McCord said an opening celebration is scheduled for July 18th with live music and guided tours of the facility.
“Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00,” McCord said. “Everything will be planned from demonstrations to tours to slideshows to all of our instructors being here. We’ll have membership giveaways. Hopefully, people can bring pictures of memories they have had over the years.
The renovations make the facility about 20,000 square feet with a west and east wing addition. Some amenities include basketball courts, indoor tennis courts and a larger wellness center.
