McMinnville’s Gilley Pool Drained And Repaired For First Time In Years

The Gilley Pool at McMinnville’s Milner Recreation Center was drained for deep cleaning for the first time in at least eight years.

Assistant Director Justin Scott said until the pool was drained, it is hard to imagine just how much surface area needed work. Scott said the nearly 800,000 gallon pool will have a fresh look after patching, caulking and lots of scrubbing.

“We have several different counties represented in our back parking lot every year,” Scott said. “They come from as far as Nashville, to Dunlap, from Livingston and Cookeville to Murfreesboro. We have them from all around that come to our pool.”

Scott said the work was much needed. He said it is a difficult task to accomplish when the pool is open from 9:00 AM until after 7:00 PM through the summer.

“We really needed to get in there, do some cleaning to our walls, the floor of the pool,” Scott said. “We had some patching to do, caulking, so we had a lot of different things that we needed done and so we took advantage of the weather. We drained the pool, it took us several days to get it drained down.”

He said that now that the Gilley Pool is in top shape, swimmers just have to wait until reopening on Memorial Day Weekend.

“We go full speed ahead, seven days a week, so we’re really excited about it,” Scott said. “We start planning our hiring process, we start planning that in January because we like to get folks lined up and ready to go.”
