The state Department of Economic and Community Development investing some $30,000 for industrial development in Warren County.
Industrial Development Board Executive Director Don Alexander said the money will be used to determine if some 200-acres near the Coffee County line is suitable for business.
“We have a site that is on the west side of Warren County very close to interstate 24,” Alexander said. “The site is one of which we have interest in long-term job creation.”
Alexander said the grant is the first step in getting the property industry cerified. If development is deemed feasible, Alexander said infrastructure will need to be expanded to the location.
“What we are using this grant for is the due diligence to determine things such as the soil contents and making sure it is architecturally and historically sound,” Alexander said. “The grant itself we would begin very soon. Within the next one or two months.”
Alexander said he sees the property being developed into an automobile supplier. Alexander said the site is a half-way point between the Smyrna Nissan Plant and Chattanooga Volkswagen Plant.
Alexander said the board applied for the grant funding earlier this year. Just one of 10 grants rewarded Tuesday.
