McMinnville Wants To Upgrade Tourism Efforts

McMinnville creating a Tourism and Marketing Department to help the city better take advantage of tourism dollars.

City Administrator Nolan Ming said the department would provide a more focused approach to tourism in McMinnville. Ming said this brings the city’s tourism work in-house from a Development Board that had been in place since 2017.

“Whether it’s a nearby a county from a big city like Nashville for the weekend,” Ming said. “And we are just excited that this will be a more aimed proactive effort. We think that our hotel-motel tax will be used more efficiently this way.”

Ming said the city would hire a full-time employee for the department. Ming said he and the council hope the department would bring more visitors to the area which would have a positive impact on the community.

“We feel like a full-time focus on that will bring more people to McMinnville, Warren County, and also allow the businesses to thrive,” Ming said.

Ming said exploring the tourism industry can attract people and tax dollars to McMinnville. Ming said this effort could provide citizens relief from a tax burden.

“All that money that they spend here we don’t have to build any roads or infrastructure to keep those people here,” Ming said. “They are going home, so that reduces the tax burden here locally.”

Ming said he believes McMinnville is in a good spot with many natural attractions that bring tourists to the area. Ming said he expects McMinnville to see an increase in tourism.

“We feel like we are perfectly situated for a jump in tourism,” Ming said.
