The McMinnville Parks and Recreation Department began moving back into the Milner Recreational Center Monday.
The department received the go ahead from the state Fire Marshal Office. After operating out of the Three Star Mall for two years, Parks and Recreation Director Scott McCord said it feels good returning to the center.
“It is just exciting to know we’re moving back in,” McCord said. “Never thought this day would come. Never thought the renovation would happen. We started this journey maybe five years ago.”
McCord said this means the some $9 million dollar renovations are coming to a close. McCord said the architects are making their final checks and anticipating a mid-June public opening.
“We’ve been moving little things today,” McCord said. “The contractor is still working on their punch list. (…) Tomorrow we should be moving our offices in. We lost one day of moving, and we’ll probably have to find another moving company if we can’t find another date soon. We have to move all of fitness equipment, which is heavy and time consuming.”
According to McCord, the renovations include about 20,000 square feet with a west and east wing additions. Some amenities include basketball courts, indoor tennis courts and a larger wellness center.
