McMinnville has named Captain Nichole Mosley as the city’s new police chief making her the first female to fill the position.
Mosley said she has aspired to be the first female police chief since she joined the department 25 years ago.
“It is an awesome feeling. I think it opens the door for a lot of people, women especially,” Mosley said. “That want to be a part of those positions that they never thought that they could.”
Mosley will replace Police Chief Bryan Denton at the beginning of the new year. Mosley said her years of patrolling and schooling have prepared her for this role.
“I started out in patrols and quickly moved into investigations,” Mosley said. “Just through all the training and different schools I have attended, and it gives me the tools I need. I have a degree in psychology that I had before I came to work here. I think that really helps with dealing with people.”
The decision was announced during the McMinnville Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting last week. Mosley said she wants to continue the growth of the accredited agency while developing more relationships with residents.
“We have an accredited agency that Chief Denton has worked hard, and we have all put in the hours of getting it started. I want it to continue to be a professional agency and stay close with the community. That is how crimes get solved, and we know their wants and needs and keep an open door with the community.”
Mosley is also a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
