McMinnville Library Putting Spotlight On Local Authors Saturday

The Magness Library in McMinnville celebrates the men and women who create books with a Local Authors Day Saturday.

Assistant Director Merissa Chapman said the event is a great way for authors to showcase their works to local readers. Chapman said people at the event can get to know the authors, buy their books, and then have them signed.

“It’s great to do it,” Chapman said. “It’s good for them. It gets people in the library that we wouldn’t have originally gotten, and hopefully that means people will stick around, and then in return more people read their books and get more popular.”

Chapman said at least seven writers expected for the event. Chapman said that the library stopped holding the event in 2018, but resumed last year after many local authors started asking Chapman for ways to get in touch with their readers.

“They really wanted to get their names out there,” Chapman said. “They really wanted to connect with the people who are reading their books, and of course the local library is great for that.”

The library will benefit from the increase in visitors the event will bring to the building, Chapman said.

“That’s the big one, is just getting people in the building and, you know, seeing what else we offer while they’re here seeing these local authors,” Chapman said.

The event will go from 10am to 12pm.
