McMinnville city employees will be hosting a soup drive thru for those needing a hot meal Wednesday.
Police Department Records Keeper Sarah Medley said the idea came about when Water Department employee Kevin Holt visited Nashville. Medley said he noticed the homeless population and wanted to give back to those in need in McMinnville.
“Our goal is to be able to give a meal to anyone that is hungry,” Medley said. “Somebody that is hungry, wants a warm meal and just come by and pick one up. The homeless population is obviously somebody we wish to reach out to and cater to with that, as well. I think there is definitely a need there.”
Medley said hot soup and sandwiches will be provided and prepared by city staff. Medley said the event starts at 11:00 a.m. at Fire Station #2 on Old Smithville Hwy until supplies last.
‘We just really appreciate everyone’s support,” Medley said. “This is something that just a couple people had an idea and worked to put it through and got with other employees and teammates in order to do that. This is something essentially anybody could do with their family, co-workers. Just something to give a little back.”
“If someone doesn’t have a vehicle and wants to walk up, we’ll definitely cater to that,” Medley said.
